The first group of students begins classes at the CMPC – Duoc UC Nacimiento campus

A historic day has taken place in Nacimiento, a district in the Biobío Region of Chile. The classes of all seven degree programs imparted at the new local educational establishment have begun for the first time. Every day, more than 200 students will be utilizing the facilities of the modern 3-story building located on downtown Julio Hemmelman Street.

Classes began at 8:00 AM for the first group of students at the CMPC DuocUC Nacimiento Campus. Students in the Nursing Technician, Programmer Analyst and Industrial Maintenance degree programs arrived on time to their classrooms.

Arriving from different districts in the provinces of Biobío and Malleco in south-central Chile, young people and adults have made this institution into an educational center where future technicians gather together. For the first time, they do not have to move to Concepción or Temuco in order to pursue quality higher education with top-tier infrastructure.

This is the case for Gabriela Sandoval, from Nacimiento, mother of a 6-year-old girl who is studying to be a nursing technician. She commented that the experience so far, “Has not been stressful at all. This first day has been very calm and happy. It has been pleasant and welcoming.” Gabriela also said that she is taking theoretical classes right now and the support of the teachers has been key. “We’re a little more nervous about the laboratory component because we’ll be further along in the program.”
Yuriza Rojas arrived from Angol for her first day of classes and said, “The first class helped motivate me because I had been a bit worried when I arrived, but now I feel encouraged to take the upcoming courses and advance to the next semester.”

Nacimiento Mayor Carlos Toloza was present on the first day and said, “Together with the director we’ve toured the premises, classrooms and laboratories, and talked with students who’ve come from different areas such as Angol, Renaico, Millantú and Nacimiento.” He also pointed out that more than 80 percent of the enrollments are of people from Nacimiento, adding that “The CMPC DUOC UC Campus is in the heart of Nacimiento, where residents have often felt left behind. Now they’re at the center of education. We’ve issued an invitation to everyone in the other communities who want to come here, since registration is still open at this accredited and prestigious institution.”
CMPC Head of Corporate Affairs for Nacimiento Cristián Cuitiño said, “Seven degree programs kicked off their academic semester today. We’re very happy to be able to fulfill our company’s commitment of having top-tier infrastructure so that students can pursue their plans for the future.”

Lastly, Cuitiño reiterated the invitation to all those who are still making the decision about whether to continue their studies or take on a new challenge of enrolling in the CMPC – Duoc UC Nacimiento campus before March 31.

Likewise, Pablo Briones Kloss, Deputy Director of the CMPC – Duoc UC Nacimiento campus said, “When you see the development of the building starting from nothing until where it is today with students and teachers in their classrooms, it’s very exciting. Basically, it speaks to the mission of why we’re here, which is to educate people to build a better society.”

The campus offers free transportation to students who live outside of Nacimiento so they can easily get here on time without incurring any extra expenses for their families. There are three routes that will run through different areas at the start of the day as well as in the afternoon and at night for the evening classes.
