CMPC at COP30: Meetings with climate leaders and panel participation marked packed agenda
21 de November, 2025
Francisco Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of the forestry company, arrived in Belém, Brasil, to be part of the global summit, where he was invited to the Thematic Days on Forest Management, Oceans, and Biodiversity. During his time at the meeting, the business leader met with climate action leaders and participated in the main panel of this Tuesday’s session, “Linking the Action Agendas from COP16 to COP30: Strengthening the Synergies between Land, Climate, and Nature.”
Among the most notable activities the executive participated in is a bilateral meeting with Dan Ioschpe, Champion of this edition of COP, with whom he will address the advances of the forestry industry in carbon and bioeconomy. It should be noted that the Brazilian has a background in the forestry industry, where he was an executive at Riocell, a former pulp and paper company, which after several changes of controllers, was acquired by Aracruz, the firm from which CMPC bought the Guaíba pulp plant in 2009.
Last Tuesday, the CMPC leader was present at the main panel of the session, “Linking the Action Agendas from COP16 to COP30: Strengthening the Synergies between Land, Climate, and Nature,” which will be led by the presidents of COP16 and COP30. Furthermore, he will participate in the talks “Aiming for the Right Tree: Sustainable Construction and Forest Policy in Action” at the Australian Pavilion and “The Importance of Forest Removals” at the Finnish Pavilion.
Previously, the executive will participate in the launch of the Forest Solutions Group (FSG) report on community engagement and the conference “Accelerating Electrification for the Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy.” During his time at the climate summit, Ruiz-Tagle will also attend a private dinner alongside figures such as Manuel Pulgar Vidal (Global Climate and Energy Lead at WWF), Nigel Topping (COP26 Champion), Jennifer Morris (CEO of The Nature Conservancy), Marcelo Behar (COP30 Special Envoy for Bioeconomy), and the Chilean Gonzalo Muñoz (COP25 Champion), among others.

CMPC present from the start of the 2025 Climate Summit
Prior to Francisco Ruiz-Tagle’s arrival in Brasil, CMPC’s Corporate Sustainability Manager, Verónica de la Cerda, also attended the event. The executive participated in the Multilateral Development Banks Pavilion and the Natural HUB. In the space dedicated to Chile, De la Cerda participated in the panels “Pact United for Climate Action” and “From Commitment to Business Action: Progress and Challenges in the Implementation of Climate Action.”
It should be noted that CMPC has a strong presence in the Brazilian market, mainly centered in Rio Grande do Sul, where its Guaíba pulp plant operates. These operations are also joined by the presence of Softys and Biopackaging since 2009, and the Natureza project, announced in 2024, which will include a new pulp plant located in the city of Barra do Ribeiro and will involve an investment of USD 4.5 billion.
