Water Quality
CMPC operations depend on water. That is why after using it, we make sure to return it in conditions similar to the ones at the time of its withdrawal. To that end, we measure the quality of all our industrial effluents. Additionally, we comply with the discharge parameters set forth by the respective regulations and make public relevant measurements of our Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Absorbable Organic Halides (AOx). This last one only applies to pulp mills.
Water emissions in metric tons
2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | |
COD | 41,799 | 35,521 | ||
BOD | 5,024 | 3,526 | ||
AOx* | 389 | 400 | ||
TSS | 4,833 | 3,952 | ||
*AOX compounds are generated by the Pulp facilities (Santa Fe, Pacifico Guaiba and Laja). Each of these facilities have annual intensity targets for the discharge of this compound. These targets are more ambitious than local regulations, and are updated annually being more strict each time. During 2019, the target was not to surpass the discharge of 684.1 metric tonnes as an overall. |
