Energy Management and Efficiency

We generate a large portion of the total energy we need to operate, leading to high levels of energy efficiency. As a result of the measures implemented at our Chilean production facilities, we received the highest level of recognition for Energy Efficiency by the Chilean Ministry of Energy, a Gold Seal for some facilities, as well as a Silver Seal for others. In addition, CMPC was granted awards for Clean Energy and Distinguished Energy Efficiency Measures, given to Chilean organizations with an ISO 50001 certification and at least two energy efficiency measures implemented. The facilities whose management systems were recognized in this category, were the Santa Fe, Pacifico, and Laja pulp mills and the Sack Kraft plant.

Consolidated electric power in GWh

2016 2017 2018 2019
Generation 3,934 3,677 4,221 3,377
Consumption 4,872 4,671 5,191 5,284
Generation/consumption 80.7% 78.7% 81.3% 63.9%
Note: The lower percentage for 2019 is due to the failure of turbogenerators at the Santa Fe mill and the shutdown of the Corrugated Papers cogeneration plant as a result of a restructuring in our energy generation strategy.
